The American Revolution (also known as the Revolutionary War) was a war between American colonists and the country of Great Britain. What began as a small protest about taxes and lack of colonial representation in British Parliament (the law making body in Great Britain) quickly grew to an all out war for independence when the first shots of the war were fired at Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775. Many did not believe the American colonist could win the war. The British were considered the best military force in the world at that time, while the American army was untrained, unequipped, poorly organized, and without many of the necessary supplies to fight (like food and ammunition). But with the leadership of George Washington, and a stubborn never give up attitude, the American's eventually won their independence and forced the British to leave North America forever!
